William Alfred was the really peripatetic child of Thomas Harborow and Martha, emigrating to New Zealand in his early 20's and founding the 'New Zealand Inksons'. He did return 'home' for a visit in 1904, aged 45, with Mary and two of their children [Alfred and Veronica but not Monica, their oldest; the others were not born at that time].

Alfred Joseph William married Margaret Shiela Ryan in 1948 when he was already 48 years old. On the fateful day of 23 May 1957 they were driving to the family farm at Waipara to the north of the Canterbury Plains with two of their young nieces in the back of the car when they were hit by a train at the level crossing entrance to the farm.
