John [b. 1814] Family Group

Husband tree
noteJohn Inkson was born, lived and died in Kings Lynn, Norfolk, England. He was another of the children of the Inkson - Harborow marriage of 1801, born a full ten years after his brother William.
There is an enigma in the parish records with respect to his birth. A John, son of Thomas and Ann Inkson of Chapel St Kings Lynn [Thomas a butcher] was baptised on 6 January 1814 in St Margaret's with his DoB recorded as 1 January that year. Another John, son of John and Ann Inkson of Chapel St Kings Lynn [John a butcher] was baptised on 16 May 1814 in St Margaret's with his DoB recorded as 1 May that year. The problem is that we don't have any record of a John and Ann in Kings Lynn at this time, let alone another butcher living on Chapel St. There is the equally enigmatic John and Jane who had a daughter Mary Ann in 1810 but that is all.
John was initially a seaman but later in life he is described variously as a 'cow keeper', milkman, green-grocer and farmer.
We know that he and Mary née Black, his wife, had at least eleven children, nine of whom were boys. Two of the boys are known to have died in infancy. Only two of the remaining boys seem to have descendents into the 21st century but a lot more work has to be done to trace those descendents.

Wife tree
noteThere was a problem with Mary's place of birth which had been recorded as 'Shadsett' even though there is no modern parish. It is most likely to have been Stradsett, about 15 km south of Kings Lynn, the 'tr' looking like 'h' in manuscript. At the time of her marriage she was living on Littleport Street, Kings Lynn and working as a shoe binder.

John Thomas INKSON
noteThis John Thomas was originally overlooked even though he was 'hiding in plain sight' on the 1841 census record. Added here 29/09/20

Charles Harborow INKSON
noteCharles Harborow seems to have followed in his father's footsteps as he is recorded in the 1861 census as a seaman on a coaster. After that, though, he disappears from the record although there is a Charles Henry Inkson death registered Q4 1864 in Medway, Kent [and we have no other record of a Charles Henry Inkson].

William Harborow INKSON
noteWilliam Harborow doesn't seem to have stayed close with the family and he never married as far as we can tell [he was still 'unmarried' at the time of the 1881 census and died only 4 years later]. In the 1871 census, aged 16, he is staying with his aunt Jane Wakefield née Black, his mother's sister.

Emily Jane INKSON
noteEmily Jane was baptised in St John's on 31 Dec 1856, the birth having been registered in Q4 of that year. The baptism certificate recorded that the family were living on Railway Rd and John, her father, was described as a green-grocer.
She appeared in the 1861 census but then there is no further record, not even a death registered. The only possibility is that an 'Emma Inkson', noted as 17 years old, was recorded in the 1871 census working at Babingley, 8 km north of Kings Lynn. There is no record for an Emma before or after so perhaps she is Emily Jane?
