Thomas [b: ABT 1772] Family Group

Husband tree
noteThomas was the child of a couple called George and Margaret I..., baptised in St Nicholas' chapel, Kings Lynn. The date was January 19 1772 so he may have been born that year or earlier.
One researcher has reported that he is John Thomas but his baptism record is definitely just 'Thomas son of ...'. Various records confirm that Thomas was a butcher.
Some conjecture also surrounds his children. This is explored in more detail on the main 1801 marriage page.
One researcher reports that he died on 26 Jun 1831 but that is unsubstantiated.

Wife tree
noteThere is no baptism record to be found for Ann but we know her year of birth quite accurately because she is in the 1851 census living with her daughter Margaret in London.
That assumes that Ann is Margaret's mother and not the mother of her [by then deceased] husband John Harborow who has re-married an Inkson. What is confusing is that Margaret has married a Harborow. One researcher states that Margaret was John Harborow's second wife and that 'he married his cousin Margaret I...'. The same researcher reports that John's mother was Elizabeth so corroborating the theory above. That also means that John's father, Thomas Harborow, was a brother to Ann. They are reported to both be children of William III Harborow.
The Harborow name continues down through the generations as a given name, presumably from here. However, there are other Inkson / Harborow marriages to come so at the time of writing it is still quite confusing.

Ann INKSON
noteAlthough we know that Ann was baptised in St Nicholas' on 19 Sep 1808, she is something of an enigma in adulthood.
In the 1841 census there are two Inksons working for a household in Cockspur Street, just off Trafalgar Square, London : Ann said to be 25 years old and Sarah said to be 20. Unfortunately, that census was simple and the two woman are just noted as 'not being from the same county' but they are assumed to be Ann [b. ABT 1808] and Sarah [b. 15 Jan 1817], daughters of Thomas and Ann, even though the ages are adrift.
We know that Sarah married a George Harborow later in 1841 and by the 1851 census an Ann Inkson, 39 year old and not married, is living with George and Sarah Harborow in Percy Circus, Clerkenwell, London and described as a 'sister'. Again she is assumed to be Ann [b. ABT 1808] even though the age is adrift.
There is next a leap of faith, only being supported later, and that is that the Ann Inkson, said to be a 42 year old spinster, who married a David Chamberlain, 42 year old widower, in Manchester in 1856 is actually Ann [b. ABT 1808] even though the age is still adrift.
In the 1861 census, David and Ann Chamberlain are to be found living in Grimsby and by the 1871 census there are three Chamberlain families in a row in Fish Dock, Grimsby. David [61] and Ann [60] Chamberlain are in #1 with George W Inkson aged 20, born in Kings Lynn and described as a 'nephew' while in #3 are William [thought to be David's brother] and Mary Chamberlain with Walter J Inkson aged 10, born in Kings Lynn and described as a 'son in law'.
The Inksons are assumed to be two of the sons of John [b. 1814], a brother to Ann [b. ABT 1808] : George Henry [b. 24 Aug 1849] and Walter James [b. ABT 1861]. It therefore makes sense that it was Ann [b. ABT 1808] who married David Chamberlain. She was either a bad mathmatician or she didn't like people to know how old she was.
In 1881 she is back in Kings Lynn where, according to the census records, her presumed sister Frances Inkson is living with her but described as a 'lodger'

Born: ABT 1808 - Kings Lynn, Norfolk, ENGLAND

 Died: see note

Elizabeth INKSON
noteAs Elizabeth died an Inkson, aged 23, it is assumed that she didn't marry and didn't have any issue

Born: ABT 1810 - Kings Lynn, Norfolk, ENGLAND
Died: 1834 - Kings Lynn, Norfolk, ENGLAND

Frances INKSON
noteFrances seems to have remained a spinster all her life. For some reason she cannot be found in the census records for 1841 or 1871

Jane INKSON
noteJane is another enigma : we have the record of her baptism in St Margaret's on 7 Feb 1819 and that states that she was born on 24 Jan that year. Thereafter there is nothing, she doesn't appear in any other record, not even a death record and there is no other Inkson born in 1819 that fits her profile
